You do not need to rewatch the entire MCU. These ten movies cover the characters, teams and multiverse mechanics that matter most before Doctor Doom arrives.
The essential route
Release order is the least confusing way through. Each pick earns its spot by setting up a confirmed Doomsday player, team, or multiverse rule.
Why it matters: the Time Heist, Tony Stark's sacrifice, Steve Rogers' exit and Sam inheriting the shield are the launchpad for everything that follows. Marvel's Sept. 25 Encore re-release will also include exclusive Doomsday footage.
Why it matters: meet Shang-Chi before his Avengers debut, and remember the unexplained beacon inside the Ten Rings. Simu Liu is in Doomsday, and Marvel's own prep promo singled this movie out.
Why it matters: this is the cleanest MCU lesson on incursions — universes colliding and potentially destroying each other. It also demonstrates how familiar Marvel characters can exist as variants on other Earths.
Why it matters: it leaves Thor traveling with Love, his adopted daughter. Current Doomsday marketing puts Thor back near the center of the board, so this is the latest full reset of where he is emotionally and cosmically.
Why it matters: Shuri becomes Black Panther and Namor/Talokan enter the MCU. Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Tenoch Huerta Mejía are all on Doomsday's board, and Marvel's promo highlighted this movie directly.
Why it matters: the ending strands Monica Rambeau in another reality and the stinger brings back Kelsey Grammer's Beast. That is one of the MCU's clearest on-screen bridges to the X-Men now appearing in Doomsday.
Why it matters: TVA, the Void, dying timelines and Fox-era Marvel all collide here. More practically: this is where Channing Tatum's Gambit finally arrives before joining the Doomsday ensemble.
Why it matters: Sam Wilson is no longer becoming Captain America — he is Captain America. It also puts Joaquin Torres in the Falcon role. Doomsday needs a new Avengers leader, and this is his status report.
Why it matters: Yelena, Bucky, U.S. Agent, Ghost, Red Guardian and Sentry become the New Avengers. The post-credits scene with the Fantastic Four ship isn't merely a tease — Marvel has tied that moment directly into Doomsday.
Why it matters: this is the big one. Reed, Sue, Johnny, Ben and Franklin Richards all feed directly into Doomsday, and the film supplies the clearest bridge to Victor von Doom. Do not skip the credits.
If you're willing to add one show, make it this one. Marvel's own Doomsday prep promo leads with Loki, and the Season 2 finale completely changes Loki's relationship to the multiverse. Frankly, it is more important homework than several movies above.

If you haven't watched the Infinity Saga in years, put this directly before Endgame.
Want the X-Men nostalgia hit?
Not MCU movies, so they stay outside the required ten — but these give the returning Fox cast the most context per hour.
How this was cut down
Fan lists disagree wildly, so the final ten prioritizes current evidence over completeness.
A Disney+ Doomsday promo specifically spotlighted Loki, Fantastic Four, Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, Shang-Chi and Wakanda Forever.
Current fan discussions repeatedly converge on Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts*, Shang-Chi, Wakanda Forever, Multiverse of Madness and the new Captain America status quo.
Quantumania is the obvious example: many older lists include it for Kang, but the present Doomsday story and cast have moved to Doctor Doom. This list follows the movie we are actually getting.
